Construction of the much-awaited Samal Island – Davao City Connector (SIDC) Project continues to be on steady pace at 57.338% accomplishment, moving one percent (1%) ahead of schedule and keeping track of its target completion before the term of the Marcos Administration ends in 2028.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain spearheaded the site inspection on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, to assess the progress of the ongoing civil works on the bridge substructure.

Also present during inspection are Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) – Bridges Management Cluster Project Director Rodrigo I. Delos Reyes, OIC-Project Manager John Christian T. Gaden, and key technical staff and engineers from the UPMO and the contractor China Road & Bridge Corporation.

Bored piling works on the west (Davao) and east (Samal) land viaducts, as well as the west marine viaduct and main navigational bridge have been fully completed, with only the bored piles for the Davao approach ramp still ongoing. On the other hand, concrete pouring for the columns of the two (2) main piers of the navigational bridge has also been finished, while the installation of form works for the box girders supporting the bridge deck has already commenced.

Once completed, this project will stand as an iconic feat of modern engineering, and will further boost growth and development in the economic and tourism hubs of Davao City and Samal Island.

SCAFORM NOW AT WORK IN THE METRO MANILA SUBWAY PROJECT (MMSP)

Another milestone for SCAFORM as we officially take part in the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) as a 3rd Party Scaffolding Consultant.

About the Project

The Metro Rail Transit Line 9 (MRT-9), commonly known as the Metro Manila Subway, is a 33-kilometer underground rapid transit system currently under construction in Metro Manila, Philippines. The line will run north–south, connecting Valenzuela, Quezon City, Pasig, Taguig, ParaΓ±aque, and Pasay, with 17 stations from East Valenzuela to Bicutan. It will also serve as the country’s second direct airport rail link, with a connection to Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Dubbed the country’s β€œProject of the Century,” the subway broke ground on February 27, 2019, with construction beginning later that year. While the project experienced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing right-of-way challenges, it remains a transformative development for the nation’s transportation system. The project is expected to cost β‚±355.6 billion (approximately US$7.06 billion in 2017 terms), with full operations projected in the early 2030s.

SCAFORM is proud to contribute to a project that will shape the future of mobility in the Philippines.

This is one of the reasons I love my work as a civil engineer in the Philippines: it provides me with the opportunity to learn more about structures and how they support a bridge in the middle of the sea.

"It builds upon the knowledge we gained in school."
