๐๐ค๐ค๐ | Bagalnga Integrated School, in collaboration with the Office of the Local Youth Development, held a comprehensive health and wellness symposium on October 22 at the Senior High School Building. The event, aimed at raising awareness on critical issues affecting todayโs youth, focused on HIV, teenage pregnancy, mental health, and drug abuse.
The symposium commenced at 10 a.m. with a drug awareness session led by Police Corporal Maria Fatima Tagalog, stationed in Compostela, Cebu. Corporal Tagalog delivered a compelling presentation on the harmful effects of drug use, emphasizing the dangers of substance abuse and the long-term consequences it can have on individuals and society.
Following the drug awareness discussion, nursing students from Collegio San Antonio de Padua took the stage to address several pressing health concerns. They provided in-depth discussions on HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and teenage pregnancy, highlighting preventive measures and the importance of sexual health education. The nursing students also led a separate session on mental health, offering students valuable insights into managing stress, anxiety, and depression, all of which are common challenges among todayโs youth.
Mr. Cuevas, one of the key speakers, underscored the importance of mental well-being and expressed concern about the rising cases of teenage pregnancy. โSenior High, aim high, soar high,โ he encouraged the students, urging them to make positive choices in their lives. His talk focused on equipping students with the knowledge and resources they need to avoid risky behaviors, seek testing when necessary, and access support services.
The event was met with enthusiastic participation from senior high school students, who engaged actively in the discussions and asked insightful questions. The symposium provided a platform for meaningful dialogue, addressing the alarming trends among teenagers and offering practical solutions to these challenges.
Through this initiative, Bagalnga Integrated School demonstrated its commitment to fostering an environment where students are empowered to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. By addressing critical issues that affect young people, the school, in partnership with local experts, aims to guide students toward a healthier, more responsible future.

Look | The weeklong Intramurals 2024 at Bagalnga Integrated School concluded on October 18, following days of thrilling competitions and artistic performances. Organized by the schoolโs Sports and Cultural CoordinatorsโJan Marinie Lastemosa, Rosary Cristy Pepito, Larry Wagas, and Dexon Lopezโunder the leadership of Principal Brendo U. Damayo, the event was a celebration of both sportsmanship and creativity, bringing together students from all levels.
A major highlight of the closing ceremony was the Mr. and Ms. Intramurals competition. Both elementary and secondary representatives embodied the spirit of the Intramurals with their sportsmanship and grace.
The Balak Contest showcased the literary talents of Bagalnga students through traditional local poetry. This year, Melly Jane Belotendos, a grade 11 student, stood out among the competitors and was declared the winner. Her heartfelt performance captured the audienceโs attention, as she delivered her original composition with emotion and eloquence. The contest emphasized both the studentsโ creativity and their pride in local culture, making it one of the standout events of the Intramurals.
In addition to the cultural events, the sports competitions were fiercely contested throughout the week. Students participated in various events, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, and chess. At the closing ceremony, the Red Dragons were proclaimed the overall champion of the Intramurals, having dominated in several sports categories. The teamโs hard work, discipline, and teamwork earned them the top spot, and their victory was met with cheers and applause from their fellow students and teachers. Individual athletes and teams were also recognized with medals and trophies for their achievements in the different sports.
The Intramurals 2024 was a huge success, giving students the opportunity to develop their athletic, creative, and leadership skills. The event fostered a strong sense of camaraderie among students from both the elementary and secondary levels. Principal Brendo U. Damayo and the dedicated team of coordinators worked tirelessly to ensure the event ran smoothly, and the excitement and energy from the weekโs activities left a lasting impression on everyone involved.
As students return to their regular academic routines, the values learned from the Intramuralsโteamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanshipโwill continue to inspire them. The school community is already looking forward to next yearโs Intramurals, eager to build on the success and memories of this yearโs event.
