Bakit daw nakatambak ang 300,000 metric tons na bigas sa bodega ng NFA?

The congestion of rice stocks in the warehouses of government is the direct result of the Rice Tariffication Law.

The Rice Tariffication Law (RA 11203) authored by Sen. Cynthia Villar, on the endorsement of then Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez, emasculated the National Food Authority and turned it into a mere Rice Buffer Stocking Agency.

The NFA is only allowed by the RTL to buy Palay from farmers but it is prohibited from selling Rice in the open market, except to government agencies like DSWD.

Only when the stocks are aging and deteriorating in quality could NFA dispose of the rice stocks through auction involving private buyers.

Right now, NFA warehouses are filled 300,000 metric tons which the agency cannot dispose of in the open market because of the RTL.

The DA is now seeking a Food Emergency Measure to allow the public sale without violating the law.

Ito ang resulta ng mga nagdudunong-dunongan na mga Economic Managers at Senador.

The brainless authors of the RTL ruined the Rice Industry of the country affecting consumers who now have to buy rice for as high as P60 per kilo and farmers whose produce is bought for as low as P16 per kilo.

Ayaw kasing makinig sa ibang opinyon during the Senate hearings which the Chairperson turned into monologues peppered with insults shaming the resource persons!
