To strengthen data-driven decision-making and foster a culture of research, the Schools Division of Northern Samar, through the Schools Governance and Operations Divisionβs Human Resource Development Section (HRDS) and Planning and Research Section (P&R), officially launched one of its flagship professional development programsβthe three-day Basic Research Training-Workshop for Supervisors, School Heads, and Teachersβyesterday, September 15, 2025, at the Grand Mercy Hotel in Calbayog City.
This training, which runs until September 17, brings together Education Program Supervisors, District Supervisors, School Heads, and Teachers from across the division. This marks the first phase of the training, which will focus on equipping participants with the skills to develop sound research proposals.
A strategic and collaborative initiative of the Human Resource Development (HRD) and Planning & Research Sections, this program is designed to empower DepEd personnel to conduct studies that address the division's key priorities. The research outputs are expected to directly support the goals of the 2023-2028 Northern Samar Division Education Development Plan (DEDP), focusing on critical areas such as curriculum, gender and development, and instruction and key pillars on access, quality, and the resiliency and well-being of learners.
This initiative is a crucial step towards ensuring that future policies and programs are evidence-based, responsive to the needs of our schools, and aligned with the national professional standards for teachers, school heads, and supervisors. The training program has also been quality-assured by the DepEd Regional Office VIII, ensuring its compliance with quality standards.

DepEd Northern Samar is pushing forward with its commitment to gender equality!
The Schools Division Office, through the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS)-Human Resource Development Section (HRDS), successfully gathered the 46 District GAD Coordinators of the Schools Division for the GAD Planning and Budgeting for FY 2026-cum-Mid-Year Assessment last June 17-18, 2025, at Mijares Hotel, Catarman.
The two-day session was a hub of productive collaboration and strategic planning. Here are some of the key highlights:
β
Participants engaged in a comprehensive discussion and shared best practices from the implementation of Gender and Development (GAD) Programs, Projects, and Activities (PAPs) from January-June 2025.
β
Plans were laid out to ensure the effective and impactful implementation of GAD PAPs for the second half of the year, from July to December 2025.
β
A major milestone was the presentation and validation of the mechanics for the first-ever 2025 Search for Most Outstanding Schools in GAD Implementation, an exciting initiative to recognize and celebrate schools that champion gender-responsive education.
This activity reaffirms SDO Northern Samar's dedication to creating inclusive, safe, and empowering learning environments for all.
