"Beneficiaries with their raised chickens—an inspiring reminder that when communities are empowered, every household thrives"
The poultry livelihood initiative has reached a significant milestone. Beneficiaries’ chickens are now laying eggs, providing households with a reliable source of food on the table. In addition to meeting nutritional needs, some families have begun selling eggs, generating supplementary income that helps augment family income.
While a portion of beneficiaries are engaged in egg sales, the majority are now engage in brooding eggs to expand their flocks. This practice demonstrates forward planning and a commitment to sustainability, as families aim to multiply their poultry stock and secure long-term livelihood opportunities. Although some hens do not brood, beneficiaries have adapted by utilizing other hens to brood the eggs or incubate the eggs.
This dual approach—consumption, income generation, and flock expansion—highlights the growing capacity of beneficiaries to manage resources effectively, balance immediate needs with future goals, and contribute to community-level food security.
