𝗥2𝗧𝗠𝗖 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀

In observance of the 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 (4th week of June 2026), Region II Trauma and Medical Center, through its Public Health Unit (PHU) together with the Department of Emergency Medicine-Poison Management Unit (DEM-PMU) conducted a community awareness campaign and in-house activities, specifically a week-long interactive information booth and a hospital-based capacity-building activity anchored on this year’s theme: 𝘾𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙨, 𝙏𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨: 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙤𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝘼𝙜𝙚. This marked the hospital’s first-ever set of activities for National Poison Prevention Week, going beyond its usual Information, Education, and Communication initiatives.

As part of its community outreach efforts, R2TMC conducted a poisoning prevention awareness campaign on June 6, 2026 at Barangay Buenavista, focusing on teenagers identified as a vulnerable and at-risk group in the digital age. The activity emphasized safe digital behavior, awareness of poisoning risks, and preventive measures through Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials.

The week-long observance also featured an interactive information booth at R2TMC that provided IEC materials to strengthen public awareness on poison prevention and digital-age-related risks.

Toxicologist, Dr. Agaid also joined the booth to impart knowledge and answer questions about poisoning.

In line with the observance, the DEM-PMU conducted a symposium for healthcare personnel on June 23, focusing on poison prevention and management. The session covered the recognition and initial management of poisoning cases, proper preparation and administration of activated charcoal, and decontamination procedures through live demonstrations.

The symposium also featured a discussion by R2TMC's Psychologist III, Ms. Mallillin, on the role of mental health in poisoning incidents, while Dr. Agaid introduced the proposed TeleTox program, an initiative aimed at strengthening poison management services through telehealth support.

Participants of the event included representatives from Rural Health Units, district hospitals, and R2TMC personnel, underscoring the institution’s continued commitment to strengthening community awareness, and advancing the prevention and effective management of poisoning cases, dahil 𝙎𝙖 𝘽𝙖𝙜𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙨, 𝘽𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙩 𝘽𝙪𝙝𝙖𝙮 𝙈𝙖𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙜𝙖.

The event was smoothly and professionally guided by the Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Jestony Baylon, whose facilitation helped ensure the program’s orderly flow from start to finish.
