Switch to Isko

JUST IN: Members and officials of at least three groups for the candidacy of presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. have switched sides to the camp of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

On Tuesday, at least 50 officers of Marcos Pa Rin (MPR) and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) joined the Visayas for Isko-Sara Alliance (VISA) to push for the tandem of Moreno with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

“(We) do hereby unanimously endorse and fully support Moreno for President and Sara Duterte for VP based on the following reasons: both are top performing mayors in the city each they represent; and both are Bisaya with a brave and God-fearing heart,” the manifesto read.

The groups signed the manifesto of support in Iloilo city on Tuesday. Moreno grew up poor in Tondo, Manila, but his parents’ roots are in Iloilo and Northern Samar.

Meanwhile, a provincial chapter of the then Marcos ruling political party Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) also switched sides to Moreno, according to Aksyon Demokratiko party chair Ernest Ramel.

At least 22 KBL officials in Baguio, Benguet declared support for Isko, Ramel said. Ramel quoted KBL provincial chair Bernard Ellamil as saying that they have decided to withdraw support for Marcos because of the family’s “baggage” involving their P203.8 billion estate tax debt. | via Marc Jayson Cayabyab
