: Four graduating engineering students from Eastern Visayas State University have developed a solar-powered electric pump boat aimed at improving eco-friendly transport for tourists along the Golden River in Basey.

The project, titled “Design and Implementation of a Solar Electric Pump Boat for Tourist Transportation in Sohoton, Basey, Samar,” was created by electrical engineering students Antonio Adorza Jr., Mac Jandy Guintadcan, Brian Jeffrey Reyno, and Richard Reynada.

Designed as an alternative to fuel-powered boats, the vessel uses four 100-watt solar panels connected to a 48-volt battery system that powers a 1,500-watt electric motor, enabling quiet, emission-free navigation. Built for about ₱40,000 over six months, it underwent multiple design refinements before reaching operational status.

The prototype has been turned over to a community-based group operating at the Wespal Sohoton Visitor Center & Eco-Lounge to support local tourism services.
