Advent Workshop

We live in a world that is loud with 𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Everyone seems to be telling us who to be, what to wear, what to believe, and what success should look like.

But John the Baptist teaches us something different. Before God used John publicly, 𝙃𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙝𝙞𝙢 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮. John spent years in the wilderness, not because God forgot him, but because God was shaping him. While others were chasing popularity and comfort, John was learning to listen to God’s voice.

Many young people today are afraid of missing out. We want to be where everyone else is. But sometimes, 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 — the seasons of waiting, studying, praying, and building character. The world needs more young people like John — young people who are 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙗𝙮 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙝; 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙗𝙮 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙗𝙮 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚.

Remember: 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵. He can use your voice, your influence, your talents, and even your struggles. You do not have to be famous to make a difference. John simply pointed people to Jesus, and that changed lives.

So instead of asking, “How can I fit in?” ask, “How can I faithfully follow God?” Instead of trying to be an echo of the crowd, be a voice that reflects Christ.

Sometimes we become so occupied with 𝗻𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀, 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 that we do not notice we have slowly walked without Jesus beside us.

Like Mary and Joseph searching anxiously through the crowd, many young people today are looking for 𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙚, 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮 while forgetting that the presence they truly need is 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳. Jesus was never interested in empty religion or surface-level faith. Even in His youth, His heart longed to know and fulfill the will of the Father.

The beautiful thing is that whenever we lose sight of Him, 𝗛𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿, patiently waiting for us to seek Him again. A life centered on Christ will always require moments of stillness, prayer, reflection, and intentional separation from distractions that compete for our hearts.

The more we behold Jesus, the more our desires, attitudes, and character begin to reflect His spirit of humility, obedience, and love.

There are days when faith feels distant, prayer feels harder, hearts become tired, and the world asks for more than what we could give.

But Hebrews 12:2 gently reminds us where our eyes should rest.
Not on fear. Not on failure. Not on everything that feels uncertain. But on Jesus.

Because when our eyes are fixed on Him, we remember this truth: 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝘀.

“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:2

Young people today often grow up surrounded by 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲, yet the message of Christ is that 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧 in the very places where sin and brokenness seem strongest.

Jesus came as “𝗜𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗲𝗹, 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘂𝘀,” to show that God does not stand distant from human pain but enters it personally, carrying our struggles and revealing a love that sacrifices itself for others.

The cross proves that God answers rebellion not with force, but with 𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙮 𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙨𝙞𝙣 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙮𝙚𝙙. Satan’s lie is that God is restrictive and unforgiving, but Christ’s life showed that the true law of heaven is selfless love, service, and compassion.

“In the place where sin abounded, God’s grace much more abounds” means that 𝗻𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗲, 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀.
