Rise PNG 2027 Campaign Launched to Promote Civic Awareness

By MELTON PAIS

A new civic awareness movement aimed at educating Papua New Guineans about the importance of the 2027 National General Election was officially launched in Port Moresby today by political commentator Alfred Andapanga.

Widely known for his outspoken views on government accountability and national issues on social media, Mr Andapanga said the initiative, called ‘Rise PNG 2027’, is focused on encouraging citizens to take responsibility for the future of the country through informed voting and leadership awareness.

Speaking during the launch, Andapanga said Papua New Guinea could no longer continue blaming leaders without offering practical solutions to national problems.

“Instead of going forward and complaining about leadership, we need to provide solutions,” he said.

“This civic awareness campaign is what I call ‘Rise PNG 2027’.”

Andapanga said the campaign would focus heavily on issues such as corruption, accountability and leadership, which he described as major concerns affecting the country’s development.

He stressed that the 2027 National General Election would be historically significant as it would be the first election held in the nation’s next 50 years following Papua New Guinea’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.

“Andapanga said 2027 will be the first General Election into the new 50 years of this country,” he said.

“If we have to do it right, we have to do it right in 2027.

We cannot continue to make the same mistakes and expect different results.

For PNG to be different, we have to be different, especially during the 2027 general elections.”

Mr Andapanga also made a strong appeal to the youth of the country, encouraging students and young people to become active participants in shaping the nation’s future.

He said young people must strive to become “the change that will go down in the history books of this nation”.

The campaign, according to Mr Andapanga, is not politically affiliated and is not sponsored by any political party or organisation.

He said he was personally committed to ensuring the awareness program becomes a nationwide movement despite limited resources.

As part of the initiative, Mr Andapanga announced plans to distribute five million T-shirts bearing the slogan *Rise PNG 2027* to students and like-minded young people across the country.

He said students from tertiary institutions and youth volunteers would carry out awareness activities throughout the country during the Christmas break this year.

The awareness program aims to educate citizens on election-related issues and how elections directly impact people’s lives and livelihoods across Papua New Guinea.
