📌 Machu Picchu Ticket Sales: Important Information for Travelers

Hello everyone! 👋

Lately, many questions have come up about how to get Machu Picchu tickets, especially for those traveling in the coming weeks. Here's clear and updated information:

🎟️ About Machu Picchu Ticket Sales
1. Advance online sales or at Cusco offices
The Peruvian government (through the Ministry of Culture) sells tickets well in advance. If no dates appear available on the official website, it means tickets for those dates are already sold out. It's not a website error; the quotas have simply been filled.

2. In-person sales in Aguas Calientes
✅ Yes, there is an option: There is a daily sale of 1,000 tickets in the town of Aguas Calientes.
⚠️ Important condition: They are only sold for entry the day after purchase, according to Ministry of Culture regulations. This means that if you travel without a ticket, you can buy one there, but you'll need to spend at least one night in town to enter the next day.

3. Seasonal differences
🌧️ Low season (November - March): It's feasible to get a ticket in Aguas Calientes for the following day.
☀️ High season (June - August): You need to plan further ahead. During this time, generally people stay two nights in Aguas Calientes: the first day to get the attention ticket and purchase the entry, and the third day for the visit.

• In Aguas Calientes ➡️ 1,000 daily tickets for the next day
• Low season ➡️ you can get them there (with one night in town)
• High season ➡️ generally two nights in Aguas Calientes: one to get the attention ticket for purchasing, the third day for the visit
• In-person sales follow Ministry of Culture regulations

🥾 Salkantay Trek: 4 or 5 Days? What Really Makes the Difference

If you're considering hiking the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu, a common question arises:

👉 Is the 4-day or the 5-day program better?

Before deciding, there's a key point worth clarifying: both programs share the same base route. They traverse high-mountain landscapes, the Salkantay Pass (4,600 m), and cloud forest areas, offering an authentic Andean experience from day one.

The main difference is not the route itself, but how the final stretch of the trek is organized, specifically regarding:
• The visit to the Santa Teresa Hot Springs
• The hike to the Llactapata archaeological site

🌄 What does the Salkantay Trek include?
Both programs visit the most iconic points:
✔ Humantay Lake (glacial turquoise color)
✔ Salkantay Pass, the highest point of the trek
✔ Lucmabamba Coffee Plantations (cultural coffee experience)

👉 The 5-day program ALSO INCLUDES:
♨️ Santa Teresa Hot Springs (muscle recovery)
🏛️ Hike to Llactapata (unique panoramic view of Machu Picchu)

🔍 What's the real difference?
🔹 Salkantay Trek 4 Days
• Day 3: Transport to Hidroeléctrica + walk to Aguas Calientes.
• ➡️ More direct logistics, optimizes time, balanced pace.

🔹 Salkantay Trek 5 Days
• Day 3: Visit to the Hot Springs.
• Day 4: Hike to Llactapata + descent to Aguas Calientes.
• ➡️ More complete and in-depth, greater but well-distributed physical challenge.

📊 QUICK COMPARISON: 4 DAYS vs 5 DAYS
🏔 Pace
4 days → Balanced
5 days → More leisurely

📈 Elevation Gain
4 days → Lower
5 days → Higher, but better distributed

♨️ Hot Springs
4 days → ❌ No
5 days → ✅ Yes

🏛 Llactapata (Machu Picchu view)
4 days → ❌ No
5 days → ✅ Yes

💪 Physical Demand
4 days → DEMANDING
5 days → CHALLENGING

🛏 Accommodation (In both)
→ Family lodges, cabins, or domes + hotel in Aguas Calientes.

🤔 Ready to decide? We'll help you plan your adventure.
✔ Choose 4 days if: you have limited time and want an efficient, well-organized experience.
✔ Choose 5 days if: you want to experience the Salkantay more leisurely, in-depth, and with extra experiences (hot springs + Llactapata).
