Behind every artwork is an artist. Behind every artist is a story.

Creating art is one thing. Speaking about it in front of an audience is another.

Many of our artists spend much of the year working quietly in their studios, immersed in the creative process. Stepping onto a stage or standing in front of a room full of people to share their work can be just as challenging as creating it.

This year, we were privileged to hear from artists across a range of NZ Art Show events, each bringing honesty, passion and insight into their creative practice.

A huge thank you to:
🎨 Glen Jorna, who shared his story with more than 300 guests at the ASB event.
🎨 Juliet Best, who spoke with an intimate group of Forsyth Barr guests.
🎨 Milarky, who welcomed Duncan Cotterill guests into their beautiful pre-Gala gallery space, giving a personal insight into the work.
🎨 Studio Reset (Kim Kobailko), Hikurangi Edwards, Sue Lund and Lizzie Pannell, who inspired a 350-strong audience at the Women of Pōneke event.

These conversations remind us that art is about so much more than what hangs on the wall. It's about people, connection, courage and the stories that shape each work.

To every artist who stepped outside their comfort zone this year—thank you. You helped our guests see not just the artwork, but the artist behind it. ❤️
