A recent international report (here) attracted attention by arguing that wealthy countries should stop pursuing economic growth and focus instead on wellbeing, equality and environmental sustainability. Unsurprisingly, the proposal has generated considerable debate. Critics describe it as unrealistic and disconnected from human nature.
