Anticipation is a design tool.
On a steep, bush-covered spur in Aotearoa's first capital, the site offered views worth waiting for. The entry facade at Russell Heights is deliberate in what it conceals. A closed, material surface of macrocarpa and CORTEN that gives no hint of the harbour beyond.
A sliding steel door. A hallway. Then fold-back bifolds open the living space fully to the panorama, and the view lands with the weight of something earned.
