Remember that Guy Fawkes is on Wednesday 5 November. This may be fun for some people, but can be particularly scary for our pets, and as we all know, it is not just for one night.

Remember all the little tips that may help to calm your beloved furry friends. For example, keep them inside, nice and snug, close the curtains to muffle the noise, stay calm yourself as they will sense you getting anxious, engage with them to provide a distraction from the noise, and don’t punish them for being frightened.

We have some over the counter products that can help keep them calm during the fireworks season: Calmex for cats and dogs, Feliway, Adaptil collars and Pet Remedy products. Please call or pop in if you wish to know more.

Be mindful of putting away your shiny fishing hooks and tasty bait, as during the summer months we see more fish hook injuries. Often the injuries are sustained to the mouth like poor Kiri, who was tempted by this fishing hook and needed to have it removed. Luckily she is back to her happy self now and did not manage to swallow it.

Other times we see paw injuries from animals standing on fish hooks, so definitely try and keep them out of reach of your pets during these warm summer months.
