One of Milford Sound’s most special locals is about to make its return 🐧✨
Tawaki, also known as the Fiordland crested penguin, begin their breeding season from July, making the coming months one of the best times to keep an eye out along the Fiordland coastline.
Recognisable by their bright orange beak and distinctive golden-yellow crest, tawaki are one of the rarest penguin species in the world and are found only in New Zealand’s south-west.
If you’re cruising Milford Sound this winter or spring, you might just be lucky enough to spot one.
