NZ Secondary Schools Under 16 Māori Football

As a whānau, there has been so much pride watching our Marley chase his dreams with unwavering determination. 2023 he made a promise to himself—to represent New Zealand in at least two different sport codes in life and at 15 he is proving that belief isn’t just a feeling, but a driving force. Marley’s journey embodies immense mana, resilience and strength and a little bit lots of cheekiness.

Changing schools last year and overcoming the pain of being bullied for being Māori to standing proudly on the field representing New Zealand Māori playing football tomorrow is extremely powerful and exciting.

Marley’s hard work, resilience, and commitment continue to inspire so many and the unwavering belief and support of his siblings, the great coaches he has had and many teammates has shaped him into the strong person he is today.

Māori Football Aotearoa with Coach Phill has taken Marley’s mana and skill to another level in just 3 days on and off the football field.

Students at Waipukurau School in Hawke’s Bay are feeling better and learning better after taking up boxing via ‘Mauria Te Pono – Believe in Yourself’. This programme shows quality sport experiences at school can boost attendance and engagement in learning.
