Today, in the Pōhutukawa Room, we explored the star Waitī, through learning about our rivers, how they flow from our Maunga, and some of the sea creatures we can find, such as whitebait & eels!!

We created our own river, adding some of our colored in eels, and whitebait. When talking about the waters, we discussed how we see it shimmer, like glitter, and decided to add some to our river. As we were creating this outside, we included sand to add some extra texture. The tamariki enjoyed working together, showing kotahitanga when setting up, creating their artwork, and helping to tidy up afterwards ✨️✨️

Yesterday in the Kauri Room, we explored the star Ururangi, through noticing the weather patterns. When going outside, we found some of the surfaces were covered in ice. Our tamariki went to hold, taste and crush the ice, describing the ice as being cold and wet.

In the afternoon, we spent some time relaxing our bodies, under the twinkling lights, and reflecting over the long weekend, whether we celebrated Matariki at a local event, or with our whānau. In the Maramataka calendar, yesterday was a low energy day, and a time for rest and reset.

Mōrena whānau,
this morning our tamariki came together to do some baking as part of our “bake n take” day for our Matariki holiday programme. This is a great activity for our tamariki to explore their sensory and fine motor skills, while also growing within their social and emotion development as they work alongside each other, take turns and build on their confidence! Baking is a great way for us to come together, share kai and show appreciation - lots of great factors connecting to Matariki!
Ka rawe tamariki ma!

Today, we learnt about Ururangi, the star that watches over the winds and the sky. Our tamariki had lots of fun with a bubbly art activity that helped them explore air. This simple play was a great way to build their focus, practice their reaching and motor skills, and experience new textures as they enjoyed the bubbles together.
