🌧️ Kia kaha whānau ❄️
With the wild weather across our region bringing heavy rain, flooding, power outages, and very cold temperatures, now is the time to take extra care of yourselves and your loved ones.
💚 Keep your home as warm and dry as possible.
💚 If it’s safe to do so, open windows for a short time each day to reduce moisture and condensation.
💚 Wear warm layers, keep blankets handy, and check on kaumātua, neighbours, and whānau who may need extra support.
💚 If you lose power, keep fridge and freezer doors closed, use torches instead of candles where possible, and follow advice from emergency services.
💚 Avoid driving through floodwaters and stay away from fast-flowing streams and rivers.
Let’s continue to look after one another during this rough weather. A simple phone call or visit to check on someone could make all the difference.
Please stay safe and keep warm 🙏🏾❤️

There are some hui that stay with you long after they finish, and our time with Te Paepae Arahi was one of them 💛
Well Homes were honoured to be invited in to share the Well Homes and Tiaki Mahana kaupapa with both staff and whānau. What unfolded was more than just a presentation, it was real kōrero, genuine connection, and shared understanding.
As we spoke about the realities many of our whānau face, cold homes, overcrowding, mould, high power costs, and the impact this has on health and wellbeing, there were so many moments of acknowledgement around the room. These weren’t just stories being told. These were lived experiences, seen and felt by many of the people sitting there with us.
That is the power of kanohi ki te kanohi connection. Creating safe spaces where people can speak openly, be heard, and know they are not alone.
The staff and whānau at Te Paepae Arahi welcomed us with aroha and manaaki. The whanaungatanga throughout the hui was beautiful, and the feedback afterwards reminded us how important these conversations are for our communities.
What made this hui even more special was the shared passion to continue walking alongside whānau together. Te Paepae Arahi are eager to collaborate and connect whānau into Well Homes and Tiaki Mahana so we can continue supporting warmer, drier, healthier homes and reducing the pressures many families are carrying.
This kaupapa has always been bigger than housing. It is about people. It is about health. It is about dignity, connection, and ensuring our whānau feel supported every step of the way.
An awesome hui, powerful kōrero, and the beginning of a relationship grounded in collaboration, trust, and a shared commitment to tautoko our whānau and communities 🤝🏽

Well Homes wants to acknowledge the incredible mahi of Tihei Rangatahi and the impact they continue to make for our rangatahi and wider community 🤩
Over the school holidays, we had the privilege of spending time with their team and seeing their programme in action. It was awesome to witness the energy, care, and intention that goes into creating such a safe and fun space for our young people.
Their holiday programme uses a “mana points” system, where rangatahi earn points through positive behaviour, participation, and effort. At the end of the programme, those points turn into mana dollars, and the kids get to shop at the Tihei shop, filled with toys, goodies, clothes, books, and more.
Such a cool way to celebrate our rangatahi and acknowledge the good they bring 🤗
Tihei Rangatahi is a FREE Youth programme offering both after school and holiday support, with a wide range of activities including sports, art, music, tech & digital arts, and radio.
They also offer a range of Youth programmes including Hā Whakata, Ngā Pōtiki, Te Waharōa, and Mauri Ātea, each designed to support rangatahi at different stages of their journey, building confidence, strengthening identity, and creating positive pathways.
Tihei Rangatahi work alongside local schools, health providers, and key services such as Whānau Ora, Vibe, Youth Justice, Well Homes and other community partners, supporting rangatahi through a holistic, wraparound, whānau centred approach that supports their overall wellbeing 😍
