Remembering and honouring lost drivers.
It is an unfortunate reality of trucking that there will be drivers who sadly fall when behind the wheel. These are friends, colleagues and family members, some old, some young, but all gone too soon. The memory of these fallen heroes of the road should not be lost.

New Zealand Trucking magazine and the New Zealand Trucking Association will therefore be partnering together to make New Zealand Truckers’ Remembrance Walls a reality.

With one memorial planned for the North Island and one for the South Island, these will be places where friends, family and colleagues can go to honour, remember and commemorate. The names of fallen drivers will appear on both sites.

“Truck drivers spend their life on the road, sadly the ones that lose their life while doing their essential job are not often talked about and our memories fade. The New Zealand Trucking Association is proud to join forces with the New Zealand Trucking magazine and establish a formal memorial, so that these hardworking men and women who have lost their lives on the road can be remembered and their stories go down in history for future generations,” says David Boyce CEO of the New Zealand Trucking Association.

Furthermore, New Zealand Trucking magazine and the New Zealand Trucking Association aim to set up a National Truck Drivers’ Remembrance Day. During that month, the names and lives of industry members lost that year will be remembered in New Zealand Trucking magazine.

“I think the concept of acknowledging drivers lost in the line of service is long overdue. Truck driving is a mission-critical function in the economy, drivers work long hours in dangerous conditions to ensure the needs of supply chains are met. Those who pay the ultimate price for doing that should be recognised. Australia has their lights on the hill, Murray Bridge, and other such memorials and it's time we did something too,” says Dave McCoid, editor of New Zealand Trucking Magazine
