NCEA reform has now been confirmed.
Starting from the current Year 9 cohort,
high school assessment in New Zealand will gradually change.

Recent data is quite interesting:
Level 1 pass rate: 73.5% (previously around 85%+)
University Entrance: 52%

It seems that as requirements become more structured,
student achievement is being reflected more clearly.

The direction of the reform is also quite clear:
-moving away from collecting credits
-towards demonstrating understanding across a whole subject

For students in Year 9 and below,
strong foundations will likely become even more important.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in practice.
