You are warmly invited to join us at Poppies on Friday 24 April at 5.30 pm to celebrate the launch of Peter Dornauf's latest book, Six Days.

Peter Dornauf's new novella is an updated book of Genesis in both its elicitation of pastoral beauty and its chronicle of human tragedy. Its title, Six Days, is a direct reference to the biblical account of creation and the Garden of Eden. The rural New Zealand setting evokes, in its description of lush paddocks, tall trees, orchard and hedges, a bucolic equivalent of arcadian paradise. The narrative, with its two main characters, Allan and Evelyn Thompson, sets up a mid-twentieth century version of things that contains echoes of the original drama, played out on a modest dairy farm in a small rural locale. Like the story of Adam and Eve, things begin well but they don't end well.

Peter Dornauf has taught and lectured in secondary and tertiary institutions for over 25 years. He is a prominent Waikato artist as well as a writer; author of four novels, four poetry collections and several non-fiction works that deal with matters to do with cultural, artistic and intellectual history.

Free event. Light refreshments will be provided. Please let us know if you're coming: [email protected]
