Receiving gold in the Paper & Board Packaging category at this year’s New Zealand Pride In Print Awards was a Father’s Day special edition Big Pe**er Barrel Aged Gin box for Hamilton-based craft brewery Good George Brewing

Our head-banging woodpecker friends know a thing or two about the benefits of wood - hence the name Big Pe**er. There are tasty morsels inside those trunks, and they’ll go to great lengths to extract them. Botanicals in the 750ml bottle included juniper berries, coriander seed, angelica root, rosehips, liquorice root, pink peppercorns, mandarin, star anise and cardamom.

So, we also went to great lengths to create the packaging using metallic ink and UV spot gloss to give this beautifully designed box a point of difference. And it was well received - with feedback including “awesomely packaged” and “A little bit different, but good different.”

A project that has been in development for some time now, is the newly opened Midnight Sun, an illuminated outdoor painting by artist Sara Hughes.

Comprising of 96 individual panels of glass, which together create a total of 260sq m, the artwork is suspended above the former Willow St bus shelter and wraps around the wall and front of Tauranga Art Gallery to Wharf St creating a beautiful corridor of coloured light for central city-dwellers.

It was a pleasure working with Sara to bring her vision to life. “Midnight Sun is about a sunset that never sets, it's about holding on to that feeling you get watching a sun sink toward the horizon” – Sara Hughes.

We were able to use our combination of large format and small format expertise to execute this print job with incredibly challenging deadlines. The blend of capabilities allowed SCG the flexibility to promptly deliver short runs digitally before the bulk of the assets were ready.
