Making miniature kitchen knives out of a metal lid and a toothpick.
One of the biggest challenges to making these is finding the right metal for the blades - it's thicker than a soft drink can, but thinner than the lid of a tin. This lid came from some Japanese peanuts which I bought at a local Asian supermarket earlier in the year - the metal looked too useful to throw away and it turns out I was right. Sometimes hoarding pays off...
These knives are sharp enough to stab into fruit or balsa wood, but not sharp enough for any real cooking. However the tools used to make them are sharp, as is the raw edge of the cut metal, so this particular craft isn't suitable for children.
