Last weekend, swimmers from around the world took part in the inaugural World Peace Swim, and for the first time, New Zealand (and ReliefAid) joined in. 🌊

The Optimist Swim Group from Ōhope entered the water alongside swimmers from 18 countries, carrying with them a message of peace, compassion, and solidarity. Founded 10 years ago to support families living through conflict, many of the group’s original members still swim together weekly and continue to support ReliefAid’s humanitarian work today.

For ReliefAid’s Communications Director Anne Bulley, an original Optimist member, the swim was also a reminder of the stark contrast between the peaceful waters of Aotearoa and the beaches of Gaza, where children can no longer safely swim, play, or simply enjoy being near the sea.

After seeing photos from the swim, our friend and colleague Ahmad sent us this message from Gaza:

“Seeing the photos made my heart smile, they’re so beautiful and full of peace and life ❤️”

“Life in Gaza can make the world feel very small sometimes. Then I see something like this happening on a beach in New Zealand and I’m reminded that kindness travels much further than we think.”

“This was a reminder that there are still people in this world who genuinely show up for peace, not because they have to, but because they care.”

His words are a powerful reminder that even from thousands of kilometres away, small acts of compassion matter. They are seen. They are felt. And they give people hope.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the World Peace Swim and stood in solidarity with ReliefAid and communities living through conflict. ❤️

Like families all around the world, mums, dads and kids in Syria gather around meals with the same excitement and anticipation. Dinner time isn’t just about food, it’s a moment of comfort, connection and normality for families in difficult conditions.

Thanks to the team at ReliefAid has been able to provide clean, safe, and efficient NZ-made stoves to families who have gone far too long without a safe way to cook. While the process may look simple, these stoves are life-changing - helping families cook safely without the added stress of dangerous conditions or harmful smoke.

Together with Oceanbridge Shipping Ltd we’re helping deliver these essential stoves to families in Syria.
You can support us to make meal times safer, easier, and more comforting for families by supporting ReliefAid’s work.

ReliefAid's Wings2Learn programme in Afghanistan, has recently delivered stationery kits filled with enough learning materials to support 176 children aged from 8 - 11 for an entire year! 📚✏️

Reflecting on the importance of children having the materials they need to learn, their teacher told us the children were ‘better motivated to complete their schoolwork’ making it easier for them to ‘acquire knowledge for a healthier and better life’.

Our work is having a real impact on children's lives in Afghanistan, and you can too. Donate today to support children to have a healthier and better life.

Children in Gaza shouldn’t have to spend their days waiting for water.

Yet for so many families, water delivery trucks are the only source of safe, clean drinking water. So, every delivery means a chance to drink, cook, wash, and care for loved ones.

ReliefAid is in Gaza, working to ensure water reaches the communities that need it most.

Because childhood should be filled with learning, play, and hope… not worrying about where the next sip of water comes from.

Your support helps keep life-saving water flowing to families who need it most.
