A higher education doesn't come cheap these days.
In the U.S. alone, it has risen @40% in two decades with some elite universities charging $100k (USD) a year.
Little wonder young Yankees are flocking by the thousands to the U.K and Europe in pursuit of a degree as well as an overseas experience.
Even with the cost of living, it is still cheaper for them to flee.
In Aotearoa, I wouldn't say its cheap to go to university, but it's certainly a helluva lot cheaper.
And yet...graduates today face the added burden of trying to pay off student debt alongside saving for a first home AND retirement. 😨
Instead of meddling with what were once strong KiwiSaver policies and incentives, I would LOVE to see Government here introduce some tax-incentives for parents to fund and feed university/education funds for little ones.
This has the effect of making it easier to afford long-term and reducing the mental anguish for graduates when they enter the workforce and the 'real world.'
