After decades of work within the Muriwhenua rohe, Far North Area Commander Riki Whiu has moved to Auckland, taking on a senior role within the force. He is now in charge of fostering partnerships between the Police and organisations, iwi and the wider community of Tāmaki Makaurau. This fresh start began with a whakatau at Te Mahurehure Marae, attended by leaders from across Te Tai Tokerau.

Māori organisations supporting vulnerable tamariki are urging the Government to trust frontline providers and stop getting in the way. The call came at the launch of Tamariki Tū, Tamariki Ora in Kirikiriroa, where concerns were raised about the impact of funding cuts on services for tamariki and whānau.
