Election year means election promises! This time it’s your roof. ☀️

With power prices up 40%+ over the last decade, both major parties have household solar promises on the table way before November 7 – and everyone’s got an opinion

🔵 National’s Home Energy Fun – low-interest loans, repaid via council rates over ~10 years. No cash grant, ~20% home equity required to qualify.

🔴 Labour’s SolarSaver – a $160 million package with grants up to $3,000, but means-tested and sized for small plug-in kits, not full rooftop systems.

🟢 Greens – pushing for community-owned energy, cheaper solar loans, and fewer consenting barriers, as currently only 3% of Kiwi homes have solar.

🟡 ACT – no subsidies, full stop. They reckon if solar stacks up, Kiwis will invest without handouts – focus on cutting red tape via the RMA instead.

⚫ NZ First – no household solar policy yet; their energy focus is on breaking up the large generator-retailers
