I’m on my second week off work and music 🥲 because of my tonsillectomy and thinking about all the wonderful things that I have been able to do because of being a singer and putting myself out there. When I was 18 I won APRAs NZ ukulele song writing competition (later again as an adult), then the chance to work with one of the movie Narnia’s directors on my first professional music video (unfortunately, I took it down…I really should find it and re upload it). Later, I worked on cruise ships for a couple of years singing and viewing beautiful sights mostly in the Caribbean (the opportunity to leave nz for the first time at 25 - bit of a late bloomer but I got there). Now, I’m recording some of my original songs with my band and playing at some really cool venues and this is all thanks to music. This photo brings me back to one of my first experiences of dreaming for this type of future, I was 11 years old and I heard “Sophie” by Goodshirt on the radio. I couldn’t get the song out of my head and I memorised all the lyrics! I entered a talent show to sing the song acapella because I didn’t know about backing tracks back then, unfortunately on the way to the competition I freaked out and made my aunt turn the car around. The fire was there though and so was Singstar. In May this year I met Rodney Fisher at an event I was playing at on Kroad and omg he’s so cool! I told him my story about the talent quest and he took a photo of us and shared it to his Instagram, I love that!!
