A small look at a vital upgrade in West Auckland

This is Vector Limited’s Waikaukau Road substation.

It helps move power through parts of West Auckland, including areas around Glen Eden, Sunnyvale and Oratia.

Following the challenges brought by the Auckland anniversary floods and Cyclone Gabrielle, protecting important sites like this from future flooding has become even more important.

It is being rebuilt to lift key equipment above the flood line, helping to keep their power on for the communities it serves.

We will share a closer look in an upcoming video.

Cold winter, warm celebration.

A night to recognise the team, hear a quick digital update, and just spend time together and have a bit of fun.

Good people. Good energy. Just what we need.

Thinking about removing gas? here’s a simple guide

If you’re removing gas from your home, there are two options to know about.

Disconnection 🔧

This is the simpler, lower-cost option.
With disconnection, the gas supply is capped at the meter. Fixed daily charges stop when supply ends. The pipe to the property will still contain gas, which means reconnection is usually easier.

Decommissioning 🚧

This removes the connection further back towards the main pipeline. It involves more work on site, which means it cost more than a disconnection.

Why the two options cost different amounts 💬

Disconnection is faster and cheaper because it stops the gas supply at the meter. Decommissioning costs more because it goes further and involves more work to isolate the connection closer to the gas main.

That’s why costs can vary.

If you want a clear breakdown of both options, you can find more detail in the industry guide link below:

It’s a good place to start before making a decision.
