✨ The tricky thing about neglect is that it’s often invisible—there’s no clear feeling of being neglected because if we never received something, we might not even know it was missing. One subtle sign of neglect can show up as *hyper-independence.* When someone is deeply neglected, they become incredibly self-reliant—beyond natural, healthy independence. It can become an identity: "I *have* to do it on my own. I can’t trust or depend on anyone else." That’s the effect of neglect—it teaches you that you can’t rely on others.
