The cultural tour around Kathmandu Durbar Square is designed as an experiential learning environment for students. Learning happens through direct observation, guided discussion, and participation rather than passive sightseeing. Students engage with living heritage by exploring royal courtyards, temples, and traditional neighborhoods while understanding how history, religion, and social structure shape daily life today.
The program emphasizes intercultural competence, critical thinking, and global awareness. Students learn Newari traditions, symbolism in Hindu and Buddhist architecture, local governance systems, festivals, and crafts through on-site interpretation, interaction with local communities, and reflective group sessions. This hands-on exposure supports academic growth, cultural literacy, and personal development within GAPYear Nepal’s Summer GAP Year Programs.
