A Strategic Leap Toward Resilient Agriculture & Community-Led Conservation

In a landmark development, the Kisan Madhyawarti Samudayik Ban Upabhokta Samiti of Beldandi Rural Municipality has secured official authorization from Shuklaphanta National Park to cultivate turmeric on 10 bigha of its community land.

Under the CONNECT project, the Samiti has received 4,000 kg of high-quality turmeric seed as foundational support, while the remaining seed requirement will be mobilized through community contributions, demonstrating a powerful model of participatory ownership.

To strengthen technical know-how, the Samiti’s Chairperson and farmers undertook an exposure visit to Bardiya, where they engaged in hands-on learning and held an intensive interaction with the Sahara Krishak Samuha. The latter’s transformative success story has served as a profound source of inspiration, deepening the Samiti’s resolve to scale up turmeric cultivation with confidence and collective purpose.

Strategic Focus Areas:
• Development of turmeric pocket zones to enhance localized production.
• Establishment of a market linkage system with value addition, unlocking economic benefits for farmers and strengthening the local economy.
• Promotion of turmeric as an alternative, climate-smart crop, less vulnerable to crop-raiding by wild animals, an adaptive response to human-wildlife conflict.

The initiative is financially supported by JOA and implemented through a consortium partnership comprising RW, ZSL-Nepal, NTNC, and Himalayan Nature, uniting conservation, livelihoods, and sustainable enterprise.

From Soil to Success: Empowering Farmers for a Greener Future
We are thrilled to share the successful completion of a Training on Compost Preparation using Decomposer, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and Efficient Water Management, held across 5 Palikas of Kanchanpur: Bhimdatt, Bedkot, Shuklaphanta, Belauri, and Beldandi.
Conducted from Jeth 4 to Jeth 9, 2083, this hands-on training brought together 100 dedicated farmers, with the majority being inspiring women farmers leading the way toward sustainable agriculture. The objective was clear: promote healthy soil, quality produce, and cost-effective cultivation while significantly reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Each farmer received a training kit containing 1 set of decomposer and IPM materials, enabling them to immediately apply organic and water-wise techniques on their farms.
The training was skillfully facilitated by Ilami Agrotech Pvt. Ltd. and successfully carried out under the CONNECT Project, with generous financial support from JOA and in consortium partnership with RW, ZSL-Nepal, NTNC, and Himalayan Nature.
Together, we’re nurturing not just crops, but a resilient, women-led, and eco-conscious farming community.
