Face of the Day: Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin was one of the most influential scientists in history, whose theory of evolution by natural selection forever changed our understanding of life on Earth. His ideas challenged traditional beliefs of his time and laid the foundation for modern biology, making him a figure of intellectual courage and groundbreaking discovery.
Born in 1809 in Shrewsbury, England, Darwin grew up in a family that valued education and knowledge. From a young age, he showed great curiosity about the natural world, collecting insects, plants, and specimens. Although his father initially wanted him to pursue medicine, Darwin’s passion for exploring nature became clear early in his childhood.
Darwin’s road to success began with his journey on the HMS Beagle, a voyage that lasted from 1831 to 1836. Traveling across South America and the Galápagos Islands, he observed unique species and fossils that sparked his revolutionary ideas about adaptation and evolution. Years of careful research and thought led him to publish On the Origin of Species in 1859, a work that would change science forever.
Darwin’s achievements were monumental, as he introduced the world to the concept of natural selection and provided evidence for the interconnectedness of all life. However, his theories also faced criticism and controversy, especially from religious communities who opposed his challenge to established beliefs. Despite this, his scientific arguments gradually gained acceptance and respect among scholars.
In recognition of his contributions, Darwin received numerous honors during his lifetime, including being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. His legacy was further cemented when he was buried in Westminster Abbey, a rare honor for a scientist, alongside Britain’s greatest figures.
Charles Darwin remains a symbol of scientific progress and intellectual bravery. His willingness to challenge convention and follow evidence wherever it led continues to inspire generations of scientists, researchers, and thinkers around the world.

Face of the Day: Brian Chesky
Brian Chesky was born on August 29, 1981, in Niskayuna, New York. Growing up in a supportive family, he developed an early interest in design, creativity, and problem-solving, which would later shape his entrepreneurial vision.
He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where he earned a degree in industrial design. His time at RISD not only honed his artistic skills but also exposed him to the challenges of connecting people, ideas, and resources in innovative ways.
Chesky’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2007, when he and his roommates, facing difficulty paying rent in San Francisco, decided to rent out air mattresses in their apartment to attendees of a design conference. This simple idea of “air bed and breakfast” evolved into Airbnb, a platform that transformed the way people experience travel, hospitality, and home-sharing around the world.
Building Airbnb was not without struggles. Chesky faced skepticism from investors, legal challenges in multiple cities, and the monumental task of scaling a platform globally. Despite these obstacles, his persistence, creativity, and focus on user experience helped Airbnb become one of the most disruptive startups of the 21st century.
Under Chesky’s leadership, Airbnb grew from a small San Francisco experiment into a global company, valued in the tens of billions. He emphasized design, trust, and community as the core of the platform, redefining hospitality and inspiring a generation of entrepreneurs to think differently about sharing, technology, and human connection.
Brian Chesky’s journey is a testament to the power of creativity, resilience, and the ability to turn a small idea into a world-changing enterprise. His story reminds aspiring entrepreneurs that innovation begins with observing the world’s problems and daring to reimagine solutions.

Face of the Day: Aung San Suu Kyi
Aung San Suu Kyi was born on June 19, 1945, in Yangon, Myanmar, as the daughter of Aung San, the country’s independence hero, and Khin Kyi, a respected diplomat. Growing up in a family deeply tied to the nation’s destiny, she carried her father’s dream of a free and democratic Myanmar from an early age.
Her education took her abroad, first to the University of Delhi in India, where she studied politics, philosophy, and economics, and later to Oxford University, where she earned a degree in philosophy, politics, and economics. Exposure to international culture and politics broadened her perspective and equipped her with the intellectual foundation for the struggles she would later face.
Suu Kyi’s political journey began when she returned to Myanmar in 1988 during a period of mass unrest. Witnessing her people’s struggle against military dictatorship, she stepped into the spotlight and co-founded the National League for Democracy (NLD). Her calm determination and belief in non-violent resistance quickly made her the leading voice of Myanmar’s pro-democracy movement.
Her path was filled with immense struggles, as she spent almost fifteen years under house arrest, separated from her family and silenced from the outside world. Despite these hardships, she refused to give up her vision, becoming a global symbol of peaceful resistance against tyranny.
In recognition of her unwavering courage, Suu Kyi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991. Years later, her leadership helped Myanmar transition toward democracy, and after her party’s victory in the 2015 elections, she became the country’s de facto leader. Though her political career later drew controversy, her earlier achievements remain a powerful reminder of resilience and hope.
Aung San Suu Kyi’s life reflects sacrifice, endurance, and an unyielding pursuit of freedom. She stands as one of Myanmar’s most significant figures, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence her nation and the world.
