Disasters in Nepal claim hundreds of lives and cause billions in losses every year. To address this, Disaster Preparedness Network Nepal - DPNet Nepal has urged political parties to prioritize ๐ƒ๐ข๐ฌ๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐‘๐ข๐ฌ๐ค ๐‘๐ž๐๐ฎ๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง (๐ƒ๐‘๐‘) ๐š๐ง๐ ๐œ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ž-๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ in their election manifestos.

As part of this initiative, DPNet submitted a ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’-๐ฉ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ญ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฌ๐š๐ฅ to major political parties, including CPN (UML), Nepali Congress, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Ujyalo Nepal Party, and other. The proposal emphasized on Mainstreaming DRR, Risk-sensitive infrastructure development, Community-based preparedness and local search & rescue teams, Cross-border disaster coordination, Adequate budgets, insurance schemes, and subsidies for resilient housing.

In this process, DPNet sought expert inputs from advisors and members to strengthen the recommendations. Through this advocacy, DPNet calls on political leaders to move beyond relief-focused approaches and invest in ๐ฅ๐จ๐ง๐ -๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฆ ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž for Nepal.

The program recognized the leadership and commitment of the new executive team in strengthening disaster risk reduction and preparedness efforts across Nepal. The event marks an important step toward enhanced collaboration and coordinated action for building a more resilient and disaster-prepared Nepal.

Nepal actively participated in the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR), showcasing its commitment to disaster risk management. Led by the Executive Chief of the NDRRMA, a diverse delegation from Nepal, including government, academia, and civil society, highlighted the countryโ€™s vulnerability to disasters exacerbated by climate change. Nepal emphasized the need for international cooperation, access to climate financing, and technological support to enhance its DRR efforts. Key initiatives like the Bipad Portal and accessible DRR materials, including braille, were featured. Nepal also stressed strengthening community resilience and sharing best practices in DRR across the region.
