Janai Purnima is a Hindu festival celebrated all over the country, with family get togethers and feasts of Kwati or sprout lentils. This day is also a harbinger of rejuvenation with Hindu men renewing their Janai and people flocking to Shiva temples in different parts of the country.
This day is also celebrated as 'Rakshya Bandhan'. On this day, sisters tie Rakhi on the wrist of their brothers.
It is believed that tying a rakhi around the hand of the brother, it becomes his promise to honour his religious duty and protect his sister. Traditional stories state that rakhis are blessed with sacred verses and are encompassed by them.
Happy Janai Purnima and Rakshya Bandhan.
Happy Janai Purnima!
Janai Purnima is believed to be a harbinger of rejuvenation. On this day the priests tie coloured thread (raksha dhago) around people’s wrist to protect people from evil.
Sisters offer rakhi (a symbol of protection) to their brothers and tie it around their wrists for their long life and good health. Special dish ‘Quati’ will be prepared on the day. It is the mixture of nine different kinds of sprout lentils like black gram, chickpea, field bean, soybean, green gram, field pea, garden pea, cowpea and rice bean.
