🌾 Exciting Milestones in Agricultural Insurance 🌾

We are thrilled to share some key updates from our latest initiatives in supporting farmers across Nepal!

📅 30 Days of Progress:

- 1st Digital Walnut Insurance Policy launched in Bajura, Nepal.
- Over 1,111 rice farmers insured in Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Kapilvastu, and Dang.
- 247 rice farmers insured in Kamala Municipality, Dhanusha.

Successful claim distributions:

- Rs. 63,720 paid out to 25 farmers in Dhanusha.
- Another impactful claim distribution in Bardiya through Shree Shiva Multipurpose Co-operative.

- New Technology: 51 farmers enrolled in Digital Cattle Insurance using Muzzle Technology.

We were honored to represent at the World Food Forum Nepal Chapter's Nepal Food Forum, sharing insights on agricultural resilience and insurance innovations.

🌾 Celebrating Farmers and Strengthening Agriculture through Insurance! 🌾

Farmers from Shree Annapurna Agricultural Cooperative and Shree Beejbreedhi Cooperative recently received their insurance claims during an event organized by the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) in Kailali District, western Nepal. We would like to thank our Insurance partner United Ajod Insurance Ltd.

The disbursement brought renewed enthusiasm among the farmers, building trust and hope in the insurance system. This trust encourages farmers to invest confidently in agriculture without fear of natural disasters or diseases. 🌱
Together, we are fostering resilience in farming communities and empowering farmers to thrive with the security that insurance provides. 🙌

PlantSat by Seed Innovations co-organized the International Digital Agriculture Forum on July 16-17 2024 together with the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) Nepal, USAID Feed the Future, Geokrishi and Kathmandu Living Labs (KLL) to showcase innovative agricultural solutions around the world.

Tired of the tedious process of acquiring cattle insurance? PlantSat has come up with a convenient solution! Our new mobile-based digital registration system lets both farmers and insurance agents complete the necessary paperwork swiftly and obtain coverage instantaneously. In addition, our AI-based image pattern recognition technology enables smart identification and remote tracking of cattle insurance, eliminating the need for manual ear tagging. After months of hard work, we are pleased to announce that PlantSat's smart tracking and digitizing technology for cattle insurance is now ready for implementation. We have already started working with our partner NLG Insurance co.Ltd, marking the start of intelligent tracking in Nepal. As we continue to advance in the field of cattle insurance technology, we look forward to expanding our partnerships and bringing such solutions to farmers and agribusinesses across the region.

PlantSat begins Digitizing and Smart tracking of Cattle Insurance.

Ramesh Tiwari, a farmer from Satpatti, Susta-2, Nawalparasi in Nepal, has always been aware of the numerous risks that come with cultivating his rice plantation, such as drought, heavy rainfall, disease, and pest infestations. However, Ramesh refused to give up on his passion and sought ways to protect his crops. He discovered PlantSat Digital Insurance, an innovative platform that allowed him to insure his crops using just his smartphone.

Enrolling in the program with enthusiasm, Ramesh regularly sent picture updates of his farm, enabling insurance and extension officers to monitor and provide advice as necessary. When disaster struck, Ramesh received his insurance claim promptly, providing relief and security to continue his farming journey.

Ramesh's tenacity in repeatedly enrolling in the PlantSat Digital Insurance platform serves as a source of inspiration for fellow farmers who share similar challenges. His experience is a compelling illustration of how technology can significantly aid farmers in overcoming various obstacles and protecting their means of living, ultimately contributing to the development of climate-resilient agricultural systems.

Bina Pandey, an inspiring female farmer from Satpatti, Susta-2, Nawalparasi, took the bold step of insuring her rice plantation using our PlantSat Krishi Beema app, despite having no prior experience with digital crop insurance. Her journey has been transformative, not only for her plantation but also for her digital literacy.

Through the app, Bina regularly sent pictures of her farm, which enabled insurance officers to remotely monitor her plantation using a combination of pictures, satellite, and weather data and provide digital advisories when needed. This streamlined the claim settlement process and provided Bina with instant compensation, allowing her to navigate through challenges such as drought, heavy rainfall, pest infestation, and disease while maintaining her productivity.

Bina’s story illustrates the immense potential that digital technology can have in the agricultural sector, especially for female farmers who play a critical role. Her journey is a shining example of how female farmers can take action and build up their resilience to protect their crops against any climate, weather, and agricultural risks.

This digital crop insurance pilot project included 94 rice seed-producer farmers from the 3 districts of Nepal, of which 20 farmers (7 from Nawalparasi, 3 from Banke, and 10 from Bardiya district) suffered losses due to the adverse effects of heavy rainfall, drought, pest infestation, and disease throughout the rice growing season. This marked the first successful implementation of a rice seed producer insurance policy in Nepal.

We are thrilled to have partnered with CIMMYT Nepal, USAID, NLG Insurance Co. Ltd, Team One Technologies, Lumbini Seed Company, and GATE Nepal to implement Shortfall coverage outlined in Nepal Insurance Authority's rice insurance policy. We proudly settled these claims for the first time in Nepal, helping farmers during occasions when crop production declines below a government-set threshold! Even more exciting was the fact that instead of the average 3-6 months of claim settlement time, it had only taken our partnership less than 45 days!
