Barba.no
Barba is a Norwegian sailing vessel, anchored in the beautiful Ryfylke fjord (Stavanger, Rogaland region).
It's challenging to keep the food fresh on a long expedition.. On our Arctic Sense expedition we caught char in a remote river to keep us going for some days 🎣

Andenes in Northern Norway is known as the whale capital of the country, home to several resident species. Barba has traditionally stopped here on our transits along the Norwegian coast to meet one of our favourite whales: the s***m whale. Until now, we have never managed to capture truly defining photographs of these gentle giants, so this time we brought photographer Aleksander Nordahl along to help us document them.
It is no straightforward task. The whales live offshore in open water, in seas that can be demanding — especially in March, when this adventure unfolds.
About: The s***m whales of Bleik Djupet (Bleik Canyon) inhabit the deep submarine canyon located just off the coast of Andøya island in Vesterålen, Northern Norway. Known as one of the few places in the world where deep-sea, large-toothed whales can be seen close to land, this area is a critical year-round feeding ground for these marine mammals.

The s***m whale! 🐳
On countless occasions we have stopped in Bleik, Andenes, whilst transiting the Norwegian coast.
In addition to stunning scenery, it’s home to s***m whales that feed in the depths of the Bleik Canyon. It’s a place where weather dictates, especially in winter, when visibility is at its best.
For years we have tried to get good underwater stills of these enigmatic giants. Last year, we brought a secret weapon for the task: ! To be continued shortly…

We are looking for YOU! 🫵
🌊 Sailors with offshore miles.
📝 Storytellers.
🧪Scientists and Researchers.
📸 Photographers and Videographers.
S.V. Barba is heading to Greenland this summer - throughout July, August & September - on a marine conservation expedition documenting life at sea, remote coastlines, and the realities of a changing ocean.
We are looking for sailors, storytellers, scientists who don’t just want to watch - but contribute. People who are hands-on, curious, and ready to be part of something bigger than a trip.
This isn’t a cruise.
It’s early mornings, cold water, long days, and real responsibility.
Not passengers. Crew.
If you’ve got a skill, a perspective, or a story to tell - we want to hear it.
