Rett før påske kom Academic Freedom Index-rapporten for 2026!

Every share, every voice, every bit of pressure makes it harder for authorities to keep him locked away in silence.

Bahruz Samadov is an Azerbaijani PhD student and researcher sentenced to 15 years in prison simply for doing his job — studying his country’s military involvement in a regional conflict. Since August 2024, he has been detained under harsh conditions, subjected to solitary confinement at various points, which has contributed to his declining physical and mental health.

His next court hearing is on 5 February. Bahruz is not a criminal, he is a scholar who sought the truth, and he is paying for it with his freedom. SAIH, , , , Scholars at Risk and Fundacja Inna Przestrzen are demanding his immediate and unconditional release. But demands mean nothing without people behind them. Stand with Bahruz. Share his message. Sign the petition (link in bio).

Since the military coup in 2021, the people of Myanmar have faced violence, repression, and mass displacement. Ethnic minorities have been especially targeted, with the gravest attacks directed at the Rohingya community. International human rights mechanisms and organisations have characterised the military’s actions as crimes against humanity, and a historic case is currently before the International Court of Justice investigating the junta’s acts as genocide.

The international community, including Norway, cannot forget what’s happening in Myanmar. We must continue to support and stand with the people of Myanmar, both with words and with action.
