Was WWDC for developers or Apple users this year? - Shortcut Apple has announced a whole lot of new features for developers and users alike. What's new, why does it matter, and what does it say about the future of apps?

We asked him so questions, so you can get to know him better. 🗣📱

How did you end up in Shortcut?
- It’s been a long road. Back in 2008 I bought the iPhone 3G and something just clicked. I immediately knew building apps for Apple platforms was my jam. Since then, I’ve always wanted to challenge myself and use the latest technology to build great new experiences. I went all-in and even spent half a decade at Apple, working on Siri and iOS itself. When I moved back home to Norway, I wanted to find a place where I could work on diverse projects with people who share my passion, and Shortcut was a natural fit.

What is the future of apps?
- I believe the future of apps is unbundling the app. By making important information and actions from our apps available to the system running them, it can intelligently surface the right information or action at the right time and make our devices feel more personal and anticipating of our needs. We can already see Apple moving in this direction with technologies like WidgetKit and the Shortcuts app, but there’s still loads to do before we’re there.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
- I’m terrible at math

How do you think technology can help in creating a better future?
- When done right, I believe technology can be a great equalizer, giving more people access to information and services. The onus of making sure we move in the right direction is on us, the builders. I believe it’s our responsibility to make sure the technology we create is inclusive, accessible, responsible and respecting of the users privacy. Only then can technology make the future truly better for all and not just more convenient for some.

Please welcome one of Shortcuts newest employees, Nikolai A. Aakrann! 👋 He is our first App Manager, and will will keep track of the management agreements we have with our customers and help them maintain their apps. 📲❗We asked him so questions, so you can get to know him better.

How did you end up in Shortcut?
- It all started with a coffee chat with a friend. Then it developed quickly. Something I’m very happy about.

What is the future of apps?
- I think there will be more machine learning and that the apps will be one and the same on several platforms (phone, PC and pad etc)

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
- I went to a Waldorf school so once upon a time I could dance the alphabet.

How do you think technology can help in creating a better future?
- I think technology will give us better conditions in terms of health and safety. For example, by notifying us as an apple watch does today. Became more self-sufficient as, for example, Telsa is on its way to.
