A little memory from BataFest ‘25 - Collaboratorium, our yearly open house fest at

The performance would have been a western traverse flute and tabla duo, but the national railways of the mighty kingdom of the Netherlands was playing tricks and almost left Shabbir (tabla player) missing out…

A stressed flutist (I guess you know who), was thinking rapidly about what to do, probably a spontaneous solo performance instead, but then Jimmy, a fellow batavier, who was helping with the sound made the mistake of asking the stressed flutist if she needed any help… The stressed flutist, (knowing that the kind sound man happens to be an amazing drummer), said ‘Yes, you can help me by playing drums if you wish…’

Poor Jimmy had little space to even hesitate, he manage to softly mumble ‘but I don’t know anything of this music’, but still was up to the challenge. (Not all heroes wear capes, some just play drums.. 🦸🏻‍♂️).

He settled the drums, we change the stage, the stressed flutist showed him in +/- 5mins what was she going to do (kind off) and they were ready to go.
But then, the mighty Dutch transport system brought Shabbir, the tabla player, right to where he was supposed to be, just a few minutes before the start time, instead of the scheduled time… A moment of confusion and hesitation and few stage and tech settings changes after an impromptu trio was born… Perfect..? Probably not. Fun..? Definitely yes!

But what happened actually? I’m not so sure, but we can find out together by listening to the recording that will play tonight 21:00 at (link in stories / bio)

Thank you to these amazing musicians Shabbir Hussain and and not so much to the mighty Dutch transport system
