On September 25, 1980, John Bonham, widely regarded as one of rock’s greatest drummers, tragically passed away at the age of 32 after a day of heavy drinking during rehearsals at Jimmy Page’s house. His death shocked the music world and brought an abrupt halt to Led Zeppelin’s plans for a major North American tour.
Although the band did not officially disband until December 1980, the remaining members made it clear they could not continue without him. Bonham’s thunderous drumming and larger than life presence were at the heart of Led Zeppelin’s sound, and his loss marked the end of one of the most influential bands in rock history 💔
