A new bouquet has arrived in the atrium 🌸 Natasja Sadi creates lifelike flowers from sugar. She began making them to honour her African and Indonesian ancestors, who worked in the sugar plantations in Suriname.
Each flower carries a story; sometimes personal, sometimes tied to a larger history. In this arrangement, you find Ixora Coccinea, the Surinamese national flower. And Caesalpinia Pulcherrima, whose seeds were used by enslaved women to end pregnancies, in an attempt to prevent their children from being born into captivity and cruelty. What at first appears as merely decorative is actually closely connected to memory, resistance and the history of sugar.

🎠Een bijzondere tip: O. festival brengt muziektheater naar een container op de kade voor Fenix. Een verhaal over Emre’s grootvader, die vanuit Turkije naar Nederland kwam als gastarbeider in de Rotterdamse haven. In deze voorstelling van 25 minuten reis je mee door zijn verhaal en de sporen die zijn migratie nalaat voor de tweede generatie.

✨ 500.000 visitors ✨ Today marks exactly one year since Fenix opened its doors 🎈 In the first twelve months, half a million people visited Fenix.
This milestone brings pride, and above all, gratitude. What stands out is the diversity of visitors, from near and far, each bringing their own story.
You may recognise something of your own story, or that of someone you love, in one of the artworks. At Fenix, migration appears through the eyes of artists: timeless and universal, human and part of everyday life.
