"Follow the Light"

Little light effects in the Fanal forest in Madeira. You can spend days in this fairy forest and you will always find new interesting formations.

The sky was tracked with a normal camera (Sony A7 III) and with an infrared modified camera (Sony A R III). The shots were combined to get this colorful mystic sky.

Getting a late start to the Milky Way season this year. I was in Mammoth Lakes, CA last week and had planned several shots, however all the roads to access the locations are still closed due to all the snow from the winter. Finally on the evening of the last day of my trip, one of the roads to the upper lakes opened. Generally I like to hike a trail in the daytime before hiking it at night to discover any issues there may be and to plan my shot, however, I didn’t have that opportunity this time. Snow covered the trail in several places as I got higher in elevation, but a GPS tracking app on my phone helped me find my way. Then when I got to this spot, I really couldn’t see the view because it was so dark. So it was a surprise to me when I finally edited the image and saw what the view actually was! The city of Mammoth Lakes is over the ridge on the left where all the light pollution is, the peak on the right is Crystal Crag, and Lake George is in the center.

I keep coming back to this image...

It is, to this date, my biggest accomplishment in astrophotography and it simply wants to be reprocessed over and over again!

I have some massive plans for future images and I will use this as a base to start with.
