Bij Octatube werk je als assembleur aan bijzondere constructies van glas en staal. Geen standaard werk, maar maatwerk waar je echt je vak in kwijt kunt.

In onze werkplaats in Delft maak je onderdelen én complete constructies. Samen met een hecht team. Met goed gereedschap. En met veel afwisseling — van passen en meten tot afwerken en soms montage op locatie.

A light and elegant glass roof defined by a stainless steel tensegrity structure, designed by architect Kevin Roche.

With a diameter of 31 metres and a structural depth of just 3 metres, the roof is based on a simple and readable principle, similar to a bicycle wheel: a permanently pre‑stressed outer ring, an inner ring acting as the hub, and a network of compression struts and stainless steel tension rods in between – without wind bracing.

Completed by Octatube in 2005, this project shows how clarity in structural logic can lead to a lightweight and transparent result.

Stiffness is achieved through pre‑stressing, allowing the roof geometry to emerge directly from the flow of forces in the structure. The roof is finished with frameless structural glazing and custom‑designed stainless steel glass nodes. At its centre, a 3.5‑metre glass dome forms the crown, composed of nine hot‑bent, fully tempered glass panels.

The roof is part of the Ciudad Grupo Santander campus, near Madrid, Spain.

The OWO Courtyard Pavilion shows how a light, efficient structure can sit comfortably within a historic setting.

To respect the Grade II* listed Old War Office courtyard in London, the pavilion was designed as a slender steel structure. The roof is supported by a steel “tree” with five columns and branching arms, carrying curved roof segments and a custom-made skylight. This clever structural concept keeps the construction lightweight while using material efficiently.

Around the pavilion, large glass panels are supported by a refined steel façade system. The slim steel profiles provide strength, limit movement and discreetly accommodate insulation and drainage — all contributing to the pavilion’s transparent and elegant appearance.

The mirror-polished stainless steel roof panels were produced with a strong focus on material efficiency. Using a single mould that was gradually adapted, more than 200 uniquely shaped 3D panels were created, each only 2 mm thick. This approach reduced material use and waste while preserving the roof’s flowing geometry.

Reusability was an important starting point. By avoiding welding on site and using only bolted connections, the entire pavilion can be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere in the future — keeping the structure flexible and circular by design.
