The NASA astronauts left the safety of the space station on Monday, January 20, for the second of three spacewalks planned for this month. Dr Meir and Mrs Koch ventured to the ISS’ Port 6 truss structure where the station's batteries are housed.

The winter solstice happens of course right before the holidays. This is a period in parts of the Northern Hemisphere when the days are so fleeting one can be forgiven for reflecting on the waxing and waning of seasons.
