Then came news from Paris: Theo’s wife Jo was expecting a child.
In a letter he wrote, almost playfully, that the thought brought back “the taste for life a little,” and that he was about to be “promoted uncle.”
The expression reveals something gentle and human. Even in difficult circumstances, the anticipation of new life stirred hope.
