Starting January 1, 2029, municipalities will be allowed to enforce rules on rental homes with energy labels E, F, or G. This means landlords must upgrade these properties to at least label D by then. A step toward a more sustainable future.

What does this mean in practice?
✅ Mandatory energy upgrades for homes with label E, F, or G
✅ Municipalities can enforce compliance from 2029
✅ Exceptions possible, e.g., for listed buildings and temporary rentals

The push for sustainability is understandable, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of the private rental sector. Without proper support and realistic policies, the risk grows that housing supply will shrink even further. All while the housing crisis continues to escalate.
