How Can You Stop Being Misjudged at Work and in Life?
Have you ever seen someone move up quickly while you’re still waiting to be recognized?
Or felt misunderstood in a relationship, no matter how much you show up and give?
It’s frustrating 😤 especially when you’re doing the work, staying committed, and still not being seen the way you deserve.
Here’s the thing: it’s not always about what you do.
It’s often about how others perceive you 👀.
The human brain is wired for shortcuts. We form quick impressions, and those snap judgments can quietly shape careers, leadership opportunities, and relationships 🧠.
Two cognitive biases explain a lot of this: the Halo Effect and the Horn Effect.
The Halo Effect: Notice one strong positive, like someone speaking confidently, and we assume they’re great at everything 🌟.
The Horn Effect: Notice one small negative, like a missed deadline, and suddenly that person gets labeled as unreliable 🚩.
These biases don’t just live in offices or boardrooms. They show up everywhere: team dynamics, hiring decisions, friendships, even families.
And if you’re not conscious of them, they can hold you back or lead you to misjudge others.
Here’s what’s important to remember:
No one is just one thing.
We are all evolving, multi-dimensional, and more than our first impressions 🌱.
👉 Next time you feel unfairly judged or catch yourself judging too fast, hit pause ⏸️.
Ask yourself:
“What else might be true?”
“What am I not seeing yet?”
When we challenge first impressions, we make room for better leadership, stronger teams, deeper trust, and real growth 🌟.
Perception is powerful, but it’s not permanent. You can shape how you’re seen, and you can choose to see others more fully, too.
What’s one time a first impression misled you, for better or worse? I’d love to hear 👇

When Power Clashes with Integrity
As a Transformational Coach and contemporary artist, I often explore inner change and emotional release. Both in my sessions and on canvas. 🎨✨
Some time ago, I began an experiment merging coaching with creativity.
I invited a close friend, someone carrying an old emotional wound from her school days, for an exploratory session.
As I coached her, I quietly sketched, listening deeply to her story.
Back in primary school, a classmate betrayed her trust.
But what hurt most wasn’t the act itself, it was the teacher’s response.
It clashed with the values she was raised with: loyalty, fairness, integrity.
Even as a child, she felt the contradiction. Her parents were called in.
It became a defining moment.
She didn’t lose trust in herself.
But she lost trust in the system.
That early tension between inner truth and outer authority followed her into adulthood.
In her work, she struggled with power dynamics.
Not from lack of confidence,
but from constantly trying to stay true to her values in systems that didn’t reflect them.
During our session, something shifted.
She softened. She found the words.
Her heart opened.
Weeks later, during the U.S. elections, I began to paint.
Watching someone in power act in ways that felt completely misaligned with my values stirred something in me.
A quiet voice rose from within:
My heart stays open.
No one has the power to shut it down.
I stay connected to love.
That’s when Heart Unleashed came to life.
A response
To her story
To mine
It mirrored her softening, her clarity, her release
A wildflower blooming in the desert
A quiet rebellion against anything that tries to disconnect us from who we truly are
When I showed her the painting, I didn’t say a word about our session.
But she knew. She said, “That’s exactly how I felt. That’s what I saw in my inner eyes. The flow, the colours—everything.”
💬 Have you ever felt that tension between staying true to your values and moving through a world that doesn’t always reflect them?
How did you find your way back to yourself?
