IDA Foundation is pleased to announce the formal appointment of Dr. Erica A. Bakkum and Aysun Akik to its .
Dr. Erica Bakkum is currently Permanent Board Member of the Dutch Safety Board as well as holding multiple health-related supervisory positions, including Supervisory Board member for the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. Her extensive background in (inter)national hospitals and health-related organisations means she brings a wealth of medical experience to this new role, uniquely positioning her to provide guidance as IDA continues its mission to bridge the gap in access to medicines. Dr. Bakkum will officially assume her role on the Supervisory Board in November 2023.
Aysun Akik, currently working as Vice President for Global Key Accounts and New Business Development for Shell Lubricants Solutions, holds a deep understanding of global supply chain management. Her appointment will play a pivotal role in optimising IDA's operations and enhancing the efficiency of our supply chain processes. Aysun Akik will officially join the board in April 2024.
Dr. Erica Bakkum and Aysun Akik will join current members Stijn van Els and Kees Romme on the Supervisory Board, and succeed our outgoing members, Catherine Hodgkin and Mieke Damen. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Catherine and Mieke for their dedicated service and invaluable insights over the past ten years. Their contributions have been instrumental in shaping IDA Foundation's trajectory and impact. We wish them every success in their future endeavours.
The addition of Dr. Erica Bakkum and Aysun Akik to our Supervisory Board brings fresh perspectives and expertise that will undoubtedly support our mission and vision for the future. IDA Foundation remains committed to its mission, and we are confident that these new appointments will further strengthen our position in the industry.

IDA Foundation has been a dedicated participant of UN Global Compact since 2018, and the SDGs play an important role in our strategy. Of course, SDG 3: Good health and well-being is central to our mission of in access to medicines and medical supplies.
But also SDG 5 (Gender equality), SDG 8 (Decent work and economic growth), SDG 12 (Responsible consumption and production) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the goals) give direction to IDA's work.
Over the past years, we made a lot of progress in relation to our pillars of People, Purpose and Planet: With our certification, we show continuous improvement in our Environmental Management System and are setting clear goals in relation to our supplier base, and in the reduction of CO2 emissions towards the . Last Sunday, August 20, was . For this occasion our teams in Amsterdam and Mumbai gathered to celebrate our and to discuss future approaches to eradicate globally. Since 2020 IDA Foundation has distributed over 430 million Insecticide Treated bed Nets (ITNs) to 46 different countries, making us one of the largest global suppliers of ITNs.
